India Celebrates Paris Olympics 2024 with Commemorative Stamps

New Delhi: In a joint ceremony, Union Ministers Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Jyotiraditya M. Scindia released commemorative postage stamps to celebrate the upcoming XXXIII Olympics Paris 2024. The event, held in New Delhi today, witnessed the attendance of notable sports figures including recent bronze medallist Sarabjot Singh, former cricketer Akash Chopra, and steeplechase athlete Sudha Singh, as well as philatelists and schoolchildren.

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, emphasized the significance of sports beyond mere competition. “Sports is not just competition, it is a way of living. The release of postage stamps reflects India’s commitment to sports, serving as a symbol of national pride and encouragement for athletes,” he remarked. Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the government’s efforts in supporting athletes by eliminating resource gaps and ensuring they have the necessary facilities to excel.

The Minister praised initiatives like the KIRTI programme under Khelo India and the TOPS programme, which identify and nurture young talent, enabling them to achieve success at both national and international levels. Notably, out of the 117 athletes representing India in Paris, 28 have benefited from the Khelo India scheme. “By releasing these postage stamps, we have honoured our sportspersons and our nation. Let us all #Cheer4Bharat and encourage our athletes,” Dr. Mandaviya concluded.

Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Communications & Development of the North Eastern Region, expressed that the release of the postage stamp is a tribute to India’s historic sports legacy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “With this stamp, we acknowledge and celebrate the hard work of our sports players,” he stated.

Scindia further noted the extensive reach of sports infrastructure and the achievements of Department of Post employees in the field of sports. “I am certain that through this stamp, we will add to our rich history of philately and also inspire young players to build sports capabilities and make India proud on the global stage,” he added, extending his best wishes to the Indian contingent in the Paris Olympics 2024.
