India Beat Afghanistan in Second Super-over to Win the Series 3-0

Bengaluru: India win a thriller in the third T20 international against Afghanistan in the second super over to bag the series 3-0. Despite the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma hitting record 5th century (121 off 69) in T20Is and forging a fifth wicket partnership of 190 runs with Rinku Singh (69 off 39), the visitors managed to level the score with the help of three half-centuries from the top three, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (50 off 32), Ibrahim Zadran (50 off 41) and Gulbadin Naib (55 off 23 not out) and a handy performance from Mohammad Nabi (34 off 16).

As the first super over remained a tie, India win in the second over by defeating the visitors by 10 runs, as Afghanistan lost both wickets for one run while chasing India’s 11/2. Defending the second super over Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets in three balls giving only 1 run and helping his team win this much-contested match.

Earlier, after both teams tied the score at 212 (India 212/4 & Afghanistan 212/6), the visitors managed to score 16 in the first super-over. Rohit Sharma though hit consecutive sixes in India’s super-over, the team failed to cross the target and levelled the score. Both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh failed to take the team beyond the target.

In the second super-over, India could score only 11 losing Rinku Singh and captain Rohit’s wicket, but Afghanistan was no match against Bishnoi’s spin to chase the meagre target.

With this victory, India defeated Afghanistan 3-0 in the series and Rohit became the most T20I winning men’s captain for India with 42 victories. For his record breaking century and winning performance, Rohit was adjudged player of the match while Shivam Dube was rewarded as man of the series for his consistent all-round performance.
