India and Bangladesh to Host Next Two Editions of Asia Cup
Mumbai: India and Bangladesh have been officially selected to host the next two Asia Cup tournaments, as announced in the Asian Cricket Council’s Invitation for Expression of Interest (IEOI) for sponsorship rights.
India, the reigning champions and the most successful team in Asia Cup history with eight titles, will host the 2025 edition. This will be only the second time India has hosted the tournament, the first being in 1990, when they clinched the title by defeating Sri Lanka in the final.
The format of the Asia Cup has varied in recent years, aligning with the format of upcoming global tournaments. The 2025 edition, to be held in India, will be played in the T20 format, coinciding with the T20 World Cup scheduled for 2026. In contrast, the 2027 edition in Bangladesh will be played in the ODI format, aligning with the 50-over World Cup set to take place in South Africa the same year.
Both tournaments will feature 13 matches each, including teams from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and a sixth team to be determined through a qualifying tournament.
