IAF Conducts Special Landing Drill of Sukhoi-30 MKI on Lucknow-Agra Expressway
Uttar Pradesh: In a remarkable display of prowess and precision, the Indian Air Force (IAF) executed a special landing exercise of the Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao on Saturday.
The special landing drill was conducted as part of the ongoing Mission ‘Gagan Shakti’ exercise, which aims to showcase the IAF’s capability to execute high-tempo operations across the country. This exercise comes in the wake of the Centre’s approval of a significant upgrade to the Su-30MKI fighter jet fleet, enhancing its capabilities for bilateral and multilateral air exercises.
The upgrade plan, a Rs 60,000 crore initiative, encompasses integrating new radars, mission control systems, electronic warfare capabilities, and weapon systems into the aircraft. This collaborative effort between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is poised to bolster India’s aerial defense capabilities significantly.
The special landing exercise on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway not only demonstrates the IAF’s operational readiness but also underscores India’s growing infrastructure prowess. Reports suggest that the drills commenced on April 1 and are slated to continue until April 10.
Earlier this year, in January, the IAF revealed plans to extend the operational life of its Su-30 MKI fighter jets, which have been serving the nation for over two decades.
