New Delhi: Grid Controller of India, operating under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, played host to the Governing Board and Steering Board meetings of GO15, the association of Very Large Power Grid Operators, on February 22nd and 23rd, 2024. GO15 is dedicated to fostering high-level exchanges among industry leaders to address major strategic and technical challenges affecting the safety, reliability, and sustainability of power systems globally.
Twenty-six industry leaders from ten global organizations participated in the meetings held in the national capital. Notable attendees included GO15 President and Chairman and Managing Director of Grid-India, S.R. Narasimhan; Secretary-General of GO15, Dr. Bruno Meyer; and CEOs and representatives from power grid operators in Russia, the USA, Japan, South Korea, and South Africa.
The year 2024 also marked GO15’s 20th Year Anniversary, and special celebrations were organized to commemorate this milestone. The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the collaborative journey that GO15 and its members have undertaken over the years. GO15 President S.R. Narasimhan emphasized the valuable partnership between Grid-India and GO15, contributing to the creation of global knowledge pools, sharing expertise, and building strong partnerships.
During the event, a panel discussion on “The Triple Bottom Line for Sustainable Grids: Adequacy, Reliability & Affordability” was organized. Panelists included members from Central Electricity Regulatory Commission and Central Electricity Authority of India, CEOs from power grid operators in the USA and South Africa, and a representative from RTE, France.
The two-day discussions covered global topics such as resource adequacy, risk and reliability in power systems, new technologies impacting end-consumers, and creating a shared roadmap towards a brighter, cleaner, and more sustainable energy future.
Established in 2004, GO15 advocates for the importance of transmission grids and a resilient power system in energy transition. The association promotes international collaboration to prepare for a sustainable future. In alignment with the ancient Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The World Is One Family), GO15 meetings represent a collective, global effort to build networks, address challenges in the power sector, share expertise, and forge collaborative solutions.
