Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Friday appointed senior IPS officer and former Director General of Police (DGP) Arun Kumar Sarangi as the new Chairman of the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC). The appointment, officially announced by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department, will see Sarangi serve in the role for a period of six years or until he reaches the age of 62, whichever comes first.
Sarangi, who currently serves as Special Director General of Police (Training) and Director of the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy, has been recognized for his distinguished service in the Odisha Police force. The official notification from the state government, issued under the authority of the Governor of Odisha, stated that Sarangi’s appointment was made in accordance with Article 316 of the Constitution of India and the Odisha Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1952.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 316 of the Constitution of India, read with Regulation 3 of the Odisha Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1952, the Governor of Odisha has been pleased to appoint Shri Arun Kumar Sarangi, IPS, Special Director General of Police (Training) and Director, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy, Odisha as Chairman, Odisha Public Service Commission for a term of six years from the date he enters upon his office or until he attains the age of sixty-two years, whichever is earlier,” read the notification.
Sarangi’s terms of service as OPSC Chairman will be governed by the Odisha Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1952, as amended over time. His extensive experience in law enforcement is expected to guide the commission in its future work of recruiting for state civil services and other public offices.
