First flight with Indian Evacuees from Ukraine landed in Mumbai

Mumbai: The first Air India flight AIC-1944, from Bucharest in Romania carrying 219 Indian evacuees from Ukraine has landed in Mumbai on Saturday evening.

The Air India flight had departed from Mumbai at 3.38 am on Saturday and landed in Bucharest at around 10.45 am (Indian standard time). From Bucharest, it departed for the city’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at around 1.55 pm (IST).

Union minister Piyush Goyal went to the airport to receive the students.

“Since the beginning of this crisis, our main objective was to bring back each and every Indian stranded in Ukraine. As many as 219 students have arrived here. This was the first batch, the second will reach Delhi soon. We’ll not stop until all of them are back home,” Goyal said.

He further said on Twitter,  Welcome back to the motherland! Glad to see the smiles on the faces of Indians safely evacuated from Ukraine at the Mumbai airport. The government led by PM Narendra Modi is working relentlessly to ensure safety of every Indian.

Around 20,000 Indians, mainly students and workers are stranded in Ukraine.
