FIH Pro League: Indian Women’s Hockey Team Gears Up for Crucial Matches Against Germany

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Women’s Hockey Team is determined to turn their fortunes around as they prepare to face Germany in their next set of matches in the FIH Pro League 2024-25. With both teams struggling in the early stages of the tournament, these encounters will be crucial in shaping their standings.

India began their campaign on a high note with a thrilling 3-2 win over England. However, they faltered in the second match, losing 2-1 in a shootout after a 2-2 draw in regulation time. Their struggles continued against Spain, where they put up a valiant fight but narrowly lost 3-4 in a high-scoring contest. In their most recent outing, India were edged out 1-0 in another close battle against Spain.

Currently, the Salima Tete-led side sits in eighth place on the points table with four points from four matches. While the team has shown flashes of brilliance, they will need to capitalize on their scoring opportunities and improve their consistency as they take on Germany.

Germany, on the other hand, have had an equally challenging run. Having played six matches so far, they have lost four in regulation time and one in a shootout, managing to secure just one bonus point. With three points, they find themselves at the bottom of the table and will be eager to secure their first regular-time victory.

Ahead of the crucial matches, India’s captain Salima Tete acknowledged the team’s efforts but emphasized the need for clinical execution. “We know these upcoming games are very important for us, especially after the close matches we’ve had. The team has shown a lot of heart and effort, but we need to be more clinical in key moments, especially in converting our chances,” she said.

She further highlighted the team’s preparation, stating, “We have worked hard in training, focusing on our defense and penalty corner execution. Everyone is motivated and ready to give their best. We know what’s at stake, and we are confident that we can rise to the challenge and deliver a strong performance.”

India will take on Germany on February 21 and 22 at 5:15 PM IST. With both teams eager to move up the table, these matches promise to be fiercely contested as India aims to regain momentum in their FIH Pro League campaign.
