Bhubaneswar: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has taken a significant step toward sustainable urban mobility with the introduction of double-decker electric buses in Bhubaneswar. CRUT has floated a tender inviting proposals for the supply, operation, and maintenance of these buses under a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model for a period of 10+2 years.
According to the Request for Proposal (RFP), the project involves the manufacture and supply of five air-conditioned double-decker electric buses, along with charging infrastructure and comprehensive maintenance. These buses are envisioned to boost eco-friendly transportation and enhance tourism connectivity in Khordha, Cuttack, and Puri.
“The authority intends to deploy the buses primarily for tourism purposes within the state,” the tender document states, highlighting the initiative’s alignment with promoting Odisha’s cultural and historical destinations.
The agreement for the buses will span 10 years from their Commercial Operations Date (COD), with an option to extend for an additional two years based on performance and condition.
CRUT’s initiative reflects its commitment to sustainable and modern transportation solutions, combining technological advancement with environmental consciousness. Once operational, the double-decker electric buses are expected to provide a unique travel experience for residents and tourists while reducing the carbon footprint of the city’s public transport system.
