Dipa Karmakar shines at Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championship 2024

Bhubaneswar: Day 2 of the Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championship 2024 witnessed an impressive display of skills by Olympian Dipa Karmakar, who secured the top position in the all-around category with a stellar total of 49.55 points. Railways dominated the women’s team event, claiming victory with an overall score of 182.60 points at the Gymnastics Centre in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

Maharashtra secured the second position with 169.95 points, followed by West Bengal in third place with 166.80 points. The host state, Odisha, secured the fourth spot with a total of 164.65 points. Sudhir Mital, President of the Gymnastics Federation of India, graced the event as the Chief Guest during the medal ceremony.

Dipa Karmakar, representing Tripura, showcased exceptional skills across various apparatus to accumulate her winning score of 49.55. Her performances included 13.40 on Vault, 10.65 on Uneven Bars, 13.10 on Balance Beam, and 12.40 on Floor Exercise.

Expressing her joy about topping the all-around category, Dipa remarked, “Competing in Senior Nationals after eight years, I feel great about it, and I am really happy with my today’s performance. I’ll try to do well tomorrow as well; there will be competition on individual apparatus.”

Dipa also praised the Gymnastics Centre in Bhubaneswar, saying, “It’s really great to see the Gymnastics centre here, and I’m sure it will produce a lot of Olympic and Asian Games Gymnasts. I would also like to thank the Odisha Government for building this centre and creating that sports culture for the athletes.”

In the individual standings, Railways’ Pranati Das secured the second position with a total score of 47.00, followed by her teammate Swastika Ganguly in the third position with 45.30 points. Pranati’s performances included 12.80 on Vault, 10.60 on Uneven Bars, 11.50 on Balance Beam, and 12.10 on Floor Exercise. Swastika recorded 12.80 on Vault, 9.15 on Uneven Bars, 11.70 on Balance Beam, and 11.65 on Floor Exercise.

The final day of the Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championships on Thursday, January 04, 2024, will feature individual gymnasts across both men’s and women’s categories competing for top honors.
