Cyclone Dana Causes Significant Power Outages; Over 11.4 Lakh Consumers’ Electricity Restored in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Cyclone Dana has severely impacted the electrical infrastructure across Odisha’s districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur, causing widespread power outages. In response, distribution companies (DISCOMs), under government instructions, have mobilized extensive manpower and resources to accelerate restoration efforts.

By 2 p.m. today, power restoration was already underway for approximately ten lakh consumers. Officials are optimistic that more than 90% of the affected areas will have power restored by tonight. Key infrastructure repairs have been progressing steadily:

  • 33kV Feeders: Of the 106 affected, 72 have been restored.
  • Primary Sub-Stations: Out of 201 impacted, 116 are now operational.
  • 11kV Feeders: 504 out of 909 feeders have been brought back online.
  • Distribution Transformers: Of 80,135 affected transformers, 39,903 have been restored.

DISCOM teams have been working around the clock on a “war-footing” basis to ensure swift restoration, prioritizing critical areas and high-impact zones. So far, over 11.4 lakh consumers have regained power as DISCOMs maintain close coordination with government authorities to expedite restoration efforts.
