Dehradun: The CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) celebrated the 83rd Foundation Day of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) with a grand ceremony focused on achievements in research and the institute’s commitment to sustainability. The event, held on October 7, 2024, highlighted the role of CSIR-IIP in advancing cutting-edge technologies for a greener future.

The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Chandrasekhar N, Executive Director and Head (R&D) at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. Chief Guest Chandrasekhar N reinforced the significance of collaborative efforts between research institutions and industry to achieve India’s ambitious net-zero goals. He emphasized that partnerships are key to driving innovations that can transform sustainability practices across sectors.

Guest of Honor Rama Rao Marri discussed the potential collaboration between CSIR-IIP and Lummus Technology, which aims to contribute to India’s growth initiatives. He highlighted their focus on comprehensive technologies that align with India’s Swachh Bharat and Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) initiatives, addressing pressing issues like plastic waste pollution, decarbonization strategies, and the advancement of green technologies such as biofuels and bio-petrochemical products.

The event also recognized the dedication of long-serving employees, honoring staff who completed 25 years of service at CSIR, as well as retirees from the past year. These individuals were lauded for their contributions, which have played a crucial role in shaping the institute’s legacy.

A highlight of the day was the presentation of awards for the “Swachhata Mission,” CSIR-IIP’s cleanliness drive. The initiative encourages active participation from the community in promoting cleanliness and environmental awareness. Laboratory representatives were also recognized for their commitment to maintaining clean and organized workspaces, serving as an inspiration to their colleagues.

The festivities continued into the evening with a vibrant cultural program, featuring performances by children of IIP staff, students, and regular personnel.
