Commemorative Postage Stamp Released on 200th Anniversary of Kittur Vijayotsava

New Delhi: On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Kittur Vijayotsava, a commemorative postage stamp was released on October 23, 2024, at the historic Kittur Rani Channamma Stage within Kittur Fort. This grand event celebrated Rani Channamma’s remarkable victory over British forces on October 23, 1824, a significant moment in India’s early resistance against colonial rule.

The Department of Posts, which has a rich tradition of honoring freedom fighters who played pivotal roles in India’s independence, released the stamp as part of its ongoing efforts to preserve the legacy of these heroes. Over the years, India Post has released numerous stamps commemorating the sacrifices and contributions of freedom fighters, inspiring future generations to remember their courage. The release of the stamp on the 200th anniversary of Kittur Vijayotsava celebrates the valor and indomitable spirit of Rani Channamma, a legendary figure in India’s freedom struggle.

The stamp was unveiled by Rajendra Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle, Bengaluru, in the presence of several esteemed spiritual leaders, including Pujya Shri Shri Madiwal Rajayogeendra Maha Swamiji, Pujya Shri Pamchakshari Maha Swamiji, and Shri Shri Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swamiji, along with other distinguished guests.

Designed by Brahm Prakash, the commemorative stamp features a powerful image of Rani Channamma on horseback, sword in hand, symbolizing her courage and leadership in her fight against British rule. The background showcases forts that represent the heritage of Kittur and the historic battle that took place there. The stamp, rendered in vibrant colors, captures the essence of Rani Channamma’s resistance and resilience, with the inscription “Kittur Vijayotsava – 200 Years” marking the milestone event.
