Ranchi: The Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), in collaboration with the Society of Geo-Scientists Jharkhand (SGSJ), organized a one-day National Seminar on ‘Mineral Exploration & Water Resource Management: Recent Trends,’ with a special focus on Jharkhand. The event, held today, brought together experts to discuss critical issues related to strategic mineral resources and the management of both surface and groundwater resources.
CMD of CMPDI, Manoj Kumar, inaugurated the seminar, emphasizing the importance of advanced techniques in mineral exploration and sustainable water resource management. “It is a matter of pride for CMPDI to host this seminar, which reflects our commitment to being a market leader in the earth resource sector. This platform offers a valuable opportunity to discuss Jharkhand’s mineral wealth and explore innovative approaches to mineral exploration and groundwater management,” said Kumar.
The seminar featured a series of technical sessions, including 22 presentations—six of which were keynote addresses—delivered by industry experts and researchers. Delegates from prominent organizations such as the Geological Survey of India (GSI), NTPC, SAIL, MECL, Ranchi University, Central University of Jharkhand, and IIT-ISM Dhanbad participated in the discussions.
Rupinder Brar, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Coal and the Chief Guest of the event, addressed the audience via video conference. She congratulated CMPDI on organizing the seminar and stressed the contemporary relevance of the topics. “We need significant research and new ideas to ensure sustainable mining and effective water resource management during mineral exploration,” she noted, adding that the best practices discussed at the seminar would contribute to the broader mining ecosystem.
The event attracted around 300 participants and saw the presence of high-ranking officials, including ADG Operations, Jharkhand Police, Sanjay A. Lathkar; Director (Technical/P&D) CMPDI, Ajay Kumar; and Director (Technical/ES) CMPDI, Satish Jha.
