Clash of Titans at Kalinga Stadium as East Bengal and Odisha FC Vie for Kalinga Super Cup

Bhubaneswar: In a highly anticipated showdown at the Kalinga Stadium, Kolkata giants East Bengal FC are set to lock horns with defending champions Odisha FC in the final of the Kalinga Super Cup. The summit clash, scheduled for Sunday, promises an intense battle between two teams boasting flawless records, each securing four straight wins on their path to the final.

East Bengal’s journey to the final included a convincing 3-1 victory over arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the group stage and a comfortable 2-0 win against Jamshedpur in the semifinals. On the other hand, Odisha FC cruised through Group D without a hiccup and secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against Mumbai City FC in a heated semifinal.

Both teams aim to etch their name on the prestigious trophy, with Odisha FC eager to defend their title on home turf. Last season’s triumph in the Super Cup marked a historic moment for Odisha FC, and a successful defense would be a crowning achievement.

Carlos Delgado, Odisha’s defender and captain during their previous Super Cup win, expressed the team’s readiness, acknowledging the significance of the title defense. Odisha’s head coach, Sergio Lobera, eyes his first trophy with the club, and the team’s exceptional form, unbeaten in the last 15 matches across various competitions, adds to their confidence.

For East Bengal, the final presents an opportunity to break their 12-year trophy drought on the national stage. Having dispatched city rivals in the group stage, they are determined to seize the title. Brazilian striker Cleiton Silva, East Bengal’s top scorer in the tournament, has been instrumental in their attacking resurgence.

The clash promises a thrilling encounter as both teams seek glory, making it a must-watch for football enthusiasts. The final result will determine the fate of the coveted Kalinga Super Cup, and fans can expect an exhilarating battle on the field as the teams strive for victory.
