Doda: The prestigious Chhatergala tunnel, connecting Doda and Bhaderwah with Lakhanpur via Basohli-Bani, is set to be a game changer for the region, providing all-weather connectivity and boosting employment opportunities for local youth. This was highlighted by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, during a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee Meeting (DISHA) held here today.
Reviewing various centrally sponsored schemes and infrastructure projects, Dr. Singh emphasized the tunnel’s transformative potential for a region that has long remained disconnected. He also urged authorities to expedite critical projects like the Khellani Tunnel and Goha-Marmat Highway to further enhance connectivity in the Chenab Valley.
The Union Minister called for the active participation of citizens in developmental initiatives, aligning with the government’s vision of Jan Bhagidari (public participation). He instructed officials to ensure the timely completion of projects and efficient utilization of funds.
Dr. Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to the district’s comprehensive development, underscoring the implementation of flagship programs like Ayushman Bharat and anti-drug initiatives. He urged officials to conduct awareness campaigns and skill development programs to create employment opportunities for the district’s youth while enhancing sports activities.
Highlighting Bhaderwah’s potential as a tourist hub, Dr. Singh proposed hosting another lavender festival next year to promote its cultivation and boost tourism. He also suggested workshops to foster innovation and improve agricultural practices in the region.
Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh presented an overview of key initiatives, including the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), NABARD projects, and the PMGSY scheme. The meeting also addressed road construction compensation issues under PMGSY and challenges with forest clearances for ongoing projects.
The meeting, held at the DC Office Complex, was attended by MLA Doda West, Shakti Raj Parihar; MLA Bhaderwah, Dalip Parihar; DDC Chairman, Dhananter Singh Kotwal; SSP Sandeep Kumar Mehta; and senior officials from various departments.
