New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a significant step in its investigation into corruption allegations surrounding the now-defunct Delhi excise policy by arresting BRS leader K Kavitha. Officials confirmed that Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was apprehended in connection with the case.
Kavitha’s arrest comes amidst an ongoing probe by multiple agencies into various aspects of the Delhi excise policy, which was scrapped amid allegations of irregularities and corruption. She had previously been in judicial custody at Delhi’s Tihar jail following her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the same excise policy.
Sources reveal that CBI officials recently questioned Kavitha within the confines of the prison after obtaining permission from a special court. The interrogation reportedly centered around WhatsApp conversations retrieved from a co-accused’s mobile phone and documents concerning a land transaction, indicating alleged kickbacks directed towards the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to influence the formulation of the excise policy.
