Bhubaneswar: Aiming to bolster the state’s film industry, the Bihar government has approved its first-ever film promotion policy. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Following the meeting, S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat), informed reporters, “The Cabinet has approved Bihar’s new film promotion policy. There is significant potential and numerous opportunities for filmmaking in Bihar. The proposal originated from the state government’s Art, Culture, and Youth Affairs department.”
Elaborating on the new policy, Harjot Kaur Bamhrah, Additional Chief Secretary of the Art, Culture, and Youth Affairs Department, highlighted that filmmakers will now receive assistance to produce movies showcasing Bihar’s rich cultural heritage. She emphasized Bihar’s scenic locations and adequate infrastructure as key attractions for filmmakers.
“The policy includes financial grants of up to Rs 4 crore for producing films, documentaries, and serials in regional languages and others,” Bamhrah stated. Additionally, the policy offers various financial incentives for regional films in languages such as Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magadhi, Angika, and Bajjika.
Bamhrah further explained that the policy ensures a single-window clearance for all government permissions, as well as adequate security and safety arrangements for filmmakers. She also mentioned the establishment of an empowered committee and a film facilitation centre to streamline processes for the film fraternity.
This new initiative by the Bihar government aims to position the state as a prime destination for filmmaking, leveraging its cultural richness and picturesque landscapes to attract filmmakers from across the country.
