Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Standing Committee on Health and Sanitation has approved a significant proposal for the establishment of a 200-ton Biomethanation plant by Oil India in Bhubaneswar. Additionally, Oil India plans to set up another Biomethanation plant with a 100-ton capacity, further contributing to the city’s waste management and energy generation efforts.
During the meeting, several other important decisions were made to enhance the city’s sanitation and public health infrastructure. The committee decided to procure raincoats for sanitary inspectors, supervisors, and workers. Track pants and t-shirts will also be purchased for sanitary inspectors. Furthermore, two centres will be constructed for the cremation of deceased dogs, cats, and small animals.
The committee recommended deploying three vehicles in three zones under the BMC Mechanical Sub-division to focus on waste reduction, recycling, and reinvestment. These recommendations have been forwarded to the Corporation for consideration.
Mayor Sulochana Dash emphasized the importance of members of the Sanitation Standing Committee visiting different wards to inspect the sanitation system. They should ensure that bush cutting is performed adequately.
To combat mosquito-borne diseases, the committee was informed that mosquito oil is currently sprayed on Dry Days to eliminate dengue breeding sources. Fogging and mosquito oil spraying will commence on July 22.
The BMC has tendered public toilet works across Bhubaneswar, with plans to construct three separate group toilets in each ward in collaboration with citizens and corporates.
In another significant proposal, the Corporation has been recommended to allocate Rs 20 lakh each for electricity works and street lights in every ward, aiming to improve infrastructure and public safety.
