Bharat Tex 2024: Pinnacle of Global Textile Innovation and Sustainability

New Delhi:  In a resounding celebration of the 5F Vision, Bharat Tex 2024, the world’s largest textile event held in New Delhi, concluded on February 29, 2024, leaving an indelible mark on the global textile industry. Under the patronage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the four-day extravaganza brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, from industry giants to policymakers, in a unified effort to strengthen the textile value chain from Farm to Fashion.

The grand inauguration on February 26 at Bharat Mandapam by Prime Minister Modi set the stage for a transformative event. Organized by a consortium of 11 Textile Export Promotion Councils and supported by the Ministry of Textiles, Bharat Tex 2024 surpassed expectations with a colossal exhibition spread across nearly 2 million sq ft, showcasing the entire textile value chain.

One of the standout features of the event was the global participation, with 3,500 exhibitors, 3,000 buyers from 111 countries, and over one lakh trade visitors converging at the two state-of-the-art venues, Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi. The event garnered significant interest from international players, with top brands and retailers such as Coach, Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, and IKEA joining hands with Indian industry leaders like Reliance, Aditya Birla, and Welspun.

Union Minister for Textiles, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, chaired a CEO roundtable, fostering discussions on the growth prospects of the Textile Sector. The presence of Minister of State for Textiles and Railways, Smt. Darshana V Jardosh, added further significance to the high-profile gathering.

The event’s multifaceted approach included a farm-to-fiber full-value chain expo, a Retail High Street spotlighting India’s fashion retail opportunities, and dedicated pavilions on sustainability and recycling. States like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and others actively participated, showcasing their textile prowess with dedicated pavilions and government representations.

A global-scale conference with 70 sessions and 112 international speakers tackled pressing issues of the textile industry, including mega-trends, sustainability, resilient global supply chains, and Manufacturing 4.0. Over 70 knowledge sessions and 14 marque sessions on ESG, sustainability, circularity, and recycling, among others, added depth to the discourse.

Bharat Tex 2024 emerged as a launchpad for various initiatives and projects, including IndiaTEX, the Textile Grand Innovation Challenge, and the announcement of 63 MoUs with international institutions, fostering collaboration in research, innovation, entrepreneurship, skilling, and sustainability.

The event’s commitment to sustainability was evident with the showcase of initiatives like Kasturi Cotton, waterless dyeing, regenerative farming, and organic and recycled raw materials. It also saw the release of the UNEP Report for Sustainable Textile Hub in India and the launch of eight technical books and a documentary on women empowerment in the silk sector.

As the curtains closed on Bharat Tex 2024, it left an indomitable legacy, marking a pivotal moment in the global textile industry’s journey towards innovation, sustainability, and collaboration. The event’s impact is expected to resonate for years, driving positive change across the textile landscape.
