Ashwini Vaishnaw Announces ‘Made in India’ Semiconductor Chip by 2025 at Global Investors Summit

Bhopal: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India’s first ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip will be ready for production by 2025 while addressing the second day of the ‘Global Investors Summit 2025’ in Bhopal via video conferencing. He also congratulated the HLBS family on the inauguration of their new IT manufacturing plant, calling it a major step towards strengthening India’s electronics manufacturing sector.

Vaishnaw praised the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in propelling the state’s growth in electronics manufacturing. He highlighted that two electronic manufacturing clusters, one in Bhopal and another in Jabalpur, have been approved under the government’s initiative. Currently, 85 companies are actively operating in the electronics sector in Madhya Pradesh, reflecting a growing industrial ecosystem.

In a bid to develop a skilled workforce, Vaishnaw announced that 20,000 engineers in Madhya Pradesh will be trained under the Future Skills Program. He noted the impressive growth of India’s electronics manufacturing industry, which has expanded to a valuation of ₹10 lakh crore. The country’s exports in the sector have reached ₹5 lakh crore, with mobile phones alone accounting for ₹4 lakh crore, followed by laptops, servers, telecom equipment (₹75,000 crore), and defense and medical electronics. Electronics now ranks among India’s top three export sectors.

Highlighting India’s growing capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing, Vaishnaw revealed that five semiconductor fabrication units are currently under construction. The government has also launched a program to train 85,000 engineers in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing to meet future industry demands.

Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Modi’s vision for enabling India’s rapid growth in electronics manufacturing. He extended his best wishes to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and the people of Madhya Pradesh for their contributions to the sector.

The newly inaugurated HLBS IT campus spans 1 lakh square feet and is equipped with cutting-edge facilities to manufacture IT hardware and electronic products under one roof. The plant will produce a range of components, including servers, desktops, motherboards, RAM, SSDs, drones, and robots. Over the next six years, the facility will receive an investment of ₹150 crore and generate employment for nearly 1,200 professionals.

On the first day of the Global Investors Summit, the Indian Railways and the Madhya Pradesh government signed agreements for renewable energy projects, further reinforcing the state’s position as an investment destination.

Vaishnaw reiterated the Modi government’s focus on future-ready infrastructure and capacity building, essential for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The government is prioritizing infrastructure investment, inclusive growth, manufacturing expansion, and simplification of laws to drive industrial growth.
