Armed Forces Medical Services and IIT Roorkee Unite Forces for Advanced Biomedical Research

New Delhi: In a significant stride towards enhancing the research capabilities of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally inked on February 14, 2024. The collaborative agreement was established between the AFMS and the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), signifying a pivotal moment for the advancement of biomedical research in the defense sector.

The MoU, signed by Director General (Org & Pers) Lt Gen SK Singh on behalf of the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services and Director of IIT Roorkee Prof Kamal Kishore Pant, is poised to foster joint efforts in biomedical research. The primary objective is to enhance combat medical support and elevate patient care standards for serving personnel. Beyond research initiatives, the collaboration encompasses a faculty exchange program, joint academic activities, and the promotion of startups in the healthcare domain.

A diverse range of fields, including the development of novel medical devices, robotics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, will benefit from the collective expertise harnessed under this MoU.

Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, emphasized the transformative impact of this collaboration, stating that the partnership with a premier institute like IIT Roorkee will propel the AFMS into the future of both combat and peacetime medical care. Prof Kamal Kishore Pant echoed this sentiment, highlighting the priority accorded to medical and defense-related research projects at IIT Roorkee. He expressed anticipation for the productive outcomes expected from this collaborative endeavor, emphasizing its potential to shape the landscape of medical advancements in the defense sector.
