AFMS and IIT Kanpur Collaborate for Healthcare Advancements

New Delhi: To enhance the healthcare facilities for armed forces personnel, the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur on April 18, 2024. The MoU, aimed at fostering collaborative research and training initiatives, was signed by Director General Armed Forces Medical Services Lt Gen Daljit Singh and Officiating Director of IIT Kanpur Prof S Ganesh.

Under the provisions of this landmark agreement, AFMS and IIT Kanpur are poised to join forces in conducting research and developing innovative technologies tailored to address the unique health challenges encountered by soldiers in challenging terrains.

A key aspect of the collaboration involves leveraging the expertise of IIT Kanpur to spearhead the development of AI-based diagnostic models. These models will be instrumental in bolstering the capabilities of the Armed Forces Centre for Computational Medicine, established within the premises of the Armed Forces Medical College. This initiative marks a pioneering endeavor, being the first of its kind among medical colleges in India.

Furthermore, the MoU encompasses a range of collaborative activities, including faculty exchange programs, joint academic endeavors, and the formulation of specialized training modules. These endeavors are poised to foster a robust ecosystem of knowledge-sharing and skill development between the two esteemed institutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Daljit Singh reaffirmed AFMS’s unwavering commitment to delivering top-tier medical care to soldiers, emphasizing that collaborations with nationally renowned institutes such as IIT Kanpur are instrumental in fulfilling this mission. Prof S Ganesh underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the integration of cutting-edge technologies like computational medicine and AI in healthcare, heralding a new era of healthcare innovation.
