Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department held a crucial review meeting on Wednesday to assess the state’s readiness to address potential cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV). The meeting, chaired by Commissioner-cum-Secretary Ashwati S, concluded with assurances that there is no cause for public concern at present.
Officials confirmed that no cases of HMPV have been reported in Odisha to date. However, vigilance remains high, with both state and central governments closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). The Health Department emphasized the importance of public awareness and hygiene practices as the first line of defense against any potential infections. “There is no reason for panic. Awareness and precaution will keep us safe,” the department stated, urging citizens to prioritize cleanliness and personal hygiene.
The meeting brought together senior health officials, including Director of Health Dr. Bijay Kumar Mohapatra, Director of Public Health Dr. Nilakantha Misra, DMET Dr. Santosh Kumar Mishra, WHO Team Lead Dr. Nihar Ray, and representatives from key health organizations in Odisha.
Reassuring the public, the department affirmed its readiness to manage any emerging situation related to HMPV. It called for public cooperation to maintain a calm and informed approach, emphasizing that a proactive and unified response will ensure the health and safety of all citizens.
