PM Modi Meets Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Strengthens India-Thailand Ties

Vientiane: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held his first meeting with Prime Minister of Thailand, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Vientiane. The two leaders exchanged warm greetings and discussed a broad range of bilateral and regional issues, marking a significant step in strengthening India-Thailand relations.

During the meeting, PM Modi congratulated PM Paetongtarn on assuming office, while she extended her congratulations to PM Modi on his historic third term as Prime Minister of India. The discussions focused on deepening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest and enhancing collaboration at sub-regional, regional, and multilateral levels.

A key focus of their conversation was on enhancing regional cooperation through BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation). Both leaders emphasized the importance of closer collaboration to promote economic development and regional stability.

PM Modi highlighted the significance of India-Thailand relations as a crucial element of India’s ‘Act East’ policy, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. He also stressed the importance of India’s Vision of the Indo-Pacific, with Thailand playing an important role in promoting peace and prosperity in the region.
