Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Meets President Droupadi Murmu
New Delhi: Malaysian Prime Minister H.E. Anwar Ibrahim called on President of India, Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan during his first official visit to India as Malaysia’s Prime Minister. The meeting marked a significant moment in India-Malaysia relations, with both nations expressing their commitment to further deepening bilateral ties.
Welcoming Prime Minister Ibrahim, President Murmu emphasized the shared values of democracy, multiculturalism, pluralism, and mutual respect that have long guided the relationship between the two countries. She highlighted that both nations have agreed to upgrade their partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, signaling a new phase of intensified cooperation across various sectors.
The President acknowledged Malaysia’s role as a key partner for India in the ASEAN bloc and its strategic importance within India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific vision. She further expressed India’s readiness to collaborate closely with Malaysia as it assumes the Chair of ASEAN in 2025, focusing on achieving shared goals of peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
President Murmu also extended her felicitations to the King of Malaysia, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, on his recent coronation, conveyed through Prime Minister Ibrahim.
This visit underscores the growing importance of India-Malaysia relations, as both countries work toward an action-oriented roadmap to implement their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across various domains of cooperation.
