Election Commission Announces Rajya Sabha Elections in 15 States
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has officially announced elections to 56 seats of the Rajya Sabha across 15 states, reported AIRN. The polling notification is scheduled to be issued on February 8, with the last date for filing nomination papers being February 15. The actual polling for these Rajya Sabha seats is set to take place on February 27.
The distribution of seats for the Rajya Sabha elections is as follows: Uttar Pradesh: 10 seats, Maharashtra: 6, Bihar: 6, West Bengal: 5, Madhya Pradesh: 5, Gujarat: 4, Karnataka: 4, Andhra Pradesh: 3, Telangana: 3, Rajasthan: 3, Odisha: 3, Uttarakhand: 1, Chhattisgarh: 1, Haryana: 1, and Himachal Pradesh: 1.
Several prominent figures, including Union Ministers and Members of Parliament, are completing their terms in April this year. The list includes Ashwini Vaishnaw, Bhupender Yadav, Parshottam Rupala, Mansukh Mandaviya, Dharmendra Pradhan, Narayan Rane, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, L Murugan, V Muraleedharan, and BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda.
The upcoming Rajya Sabha elections will be closely watched as they play a crucial role in shaping the composition of the upper house of India’s Parliament.
