Bhubaneswar: A Youth Conference was organized at Rama Devi Women’s University on Sunday to commemorate International Women’s Day 2025, bringing together students, educators, and policymakers to discuss women’s empowerment, gender equality, and key social issues.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who was the chief guest, engaged in direct interactions with students from Rama Devi Women’s University and other participating colleges. Addressing the young audience, she spoke about women’s rights, sexual violence, political participation, mental health, and economic inclusion, emphasizing that empowering youth is the foundation for long-term gender equality.
“Women’s empowerment is not just a slogan; it is a continuous process that will be passed down through generations. If a mother is brave, her daughter will be brave too,” she stated, urging young women to develop self-confidence and resilience.
The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of balancing career aspirations with family responsibilities, urging society to change its perceptions of working women. She emphasized that mental health must be prioritized alongside talent and qualifications, encouraging young women to practice yoga and pranayama for emotional well-being.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to women’s safety, Deputy CM Parida announced that the Vishaka Guidelines would soon be implemented across the state, ensuring stronger legal protections against workplace harassment. She also assured that women’s courts would be prioritized to expedite justice in cases of gender-based violence.
“The true victims are not those who suffer injustice but those who cause harm. We must work towards a society where respect and equality define every interaction,” she added.
The conference also featured Shubha Sharma, Principal Secretary of the Women and Child Development Department, Monisha Banerjee, Director of Women & Child Development, and faculty members from Rama Devi Women’s University. Discussions centered around policy initiatives, legal reforms, and community-driven solutions to strengthen women’s participation in politics, the workforce, and leadership roles.
With enthusiastic participation from students and educators alike, the Youth Conference served as a powerful platform to inspire young women to take charge of their futures. The event reinforced the message that women’s empowerment is key to a stronger and more equitable society, aligning with Odisha’s vision of gender justice and social progress.
