Yoga Teachers and Instructors Recognized at Republic Day Parade 2024 for Their Primary Health Care Contributions
New Delhi: In a significant tribute to the role of Yoga in primary health care, 291 Yoga Teachers and Instructors from various states across India were invited as special guests to witness the 75th Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path. The Government of India extended this invitation to acknowledge their remarkable contribution in providing primary health care through Yoga at the grassroots level.
These Yoga instructors and teachers are actively engaged in the primary health care and wellness sector through Ayush Health and Wellness Centres (AHWCs), working under the flagship scheme of the National Ayush Mission by the Ministry of Ayush. Following the Republic Day event, the special invitees had the opportunity to interact with Shri Sarbanada Sonowal, Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping, and Waterways at his residence.
The Yoga teachers and instructors associated with AHWCs are integral to the wellness drive through Yoga in the primary health care sector. They not only provide essential Yoga training but also address primary health care needs, making a significant impact in their respective domains.
After witnessing the Republic Day Parade, these special invitees explored various historical places of importance in Delhi and shared their on-ground efforts and experiences regarding Yoga with Union Minister Shri Sarbanada Sonowal.
Yoga, recognized globally, has become an essential element in promoting holistic well-being. The Ministry of Ayush, through initiatives like the International Day of Yoga, has taken comprehensive steps to promote Yoga across India and globally. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suggestion for an International Day of Yoga on June 21 received support, and Yoga is now part of UNESCO’s list of intangible world heritage.
The Union Government has acknowledged Yogasana as a sports discipline and included it in the priority category. Yoga has found its place in school curriculums, and many universities have incorporated Yoga courses. The Ministry of Ayush has launched the Namaste Yoga App, Y-Break, and WHO-m Yoga to make Yoga-related information, events, and classes accessible to people worldwide.
The AHWCs, spanning the nation, have been actively contributing to the well-being of the public. Yoga, an integral component of these centers, is disseminated to the grassroots by dedicated teachers and instructors who play a crucial role in promoting health and wellness through Yoga.
