Yashasvi Jaiswal Enters Elite 600-Run Club in Test Cricket

Ranchi: Yashasvi Jaiswal, the rising star in Indian cricket, etched his name in the record books by becoming only the fifth Indian batter to accumulate 600 or more runs in a Test series. His brilliant knock of 73 on the second day of the fourth Test against England at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium propelled him into the elite league.

In just seven innings across four Tests against England, Jaiswal has amassed an impressive total of 618 runs, achieving a remarkable average of 103 and a formidable strike rate of 78.32. The prodigious southpaw has notched up two centuries and two half-centuries, showcasing his batting prowess.

Yashasvi Jaiswal now joins the ranks of Indian cricket legends, including Sunil Gavaskar (1971, 1978), Virat Kohli (2014, 2016, 2017), Dilip Sardesai (1971), and Rahul Dravid (2002), who have previously crossed the 600-run mark in a Test series. With 156 runs needed to surpass Gavaskar’s iconic record of 774 runs against West Indies in 1971, Jaiswal stands on the cusp of creating history.

In a remarkable display of audacious stroke play during the Ranchi Test’s second day, Jaiswal not only reached the 600-run milestone but also surpassed Virender Sehwag’s record for the most Test sixes by an Indian batter in a calendar year. His impressive tally of 23 sixes in just five matches in 2024 demonstrates his aggressive yet effective approach.

As Jaiswal inches closer to the illustrious 1000-run milestone in Test cricket, currently standing at 934 runs with an average of 71.84, he joins the esteemed company of cricketing luminaries such as Sir Don Bradman, Sir Garfield Sobers, Graeme Smith, George Headley, and Neil Harvey, all of whom achieved over 600 runs in a Test series before turning 23. The young sensation’s remarkable achievements continue to make waves in the cricketing world, promising a bright future for Indian cricket.
