Workshop on National Education Policy 2020 Concludes with Roadmap for Odisha’s Education System

Bhubaneswar: The three-day National Level Workshop on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 concluded at the Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar, with an in-depth discussion on transforming Odisha’s education system.

The workshop saw ten expert groups deliberating on various facets of NEP 2020, including foundational and preparatory stages, assessment reforms, teacher education, skill-based learning, technological integration, and reducing dropout rates. The event culminated with group presentations outlining strategic roadmaps for implementing the policy across Odisha.

Key recommendations included introducing Shishu Vatika for early childhood education in the 2025 academic year, developing textbooks contextualized to Odisha’s cultural and linguistic diversity, and enhancing teacher capacity-building initiatives. Participants emphasized creating a unified State Curriculum Framework (SCF) tailored to Odisha’s unique educational, cultural, and linguistic needs.

A significant part of the discussions focused on expanding higher secondary institutions across the state and improving ICT infrastructure to ensure robust internet connectivity. Participants highlighted the importance of modernizing schools and colleges to support digital education and enable equitable access to technology.

The groups proposed initiatives such as mentor-teacher programs to foster leadership skills among educators, district-level orientations for administrative officers on NEP 2020, and sensitization programs for teachers to adapt to the new pedagogical structure. These measures aim to empower educators and administrators in implementing the policy effectively.

The workshop underscored the importance of drafting a comprehensive vision document reflecting Odisha’s educational history, achievements, and future aspirations. This document, combined with district-level action plans, will provide a structured approach to reforming the education system in line with NEP 2020 objectives.

The event served as a collaborative platform for stakeholders, including educators, policymakers, and administrators, to address key challenges and chart a path toward a more inclusive, skill-oriented, and culturally responsive education system in Odisha.
