Wimbledon 2024: Rybakina and Krejcikova Secure Women’s Singles Semi-Final Spots

London: The stage is set for an exhilarating showdown in the women’s singles semi-finals at Wimbledon, following impressive victories in the quarter-finals by Elena Rybakina and Barbora Krejcikova.

Elena Rybakina, after a spirited comeback in her quarter-final match, emerged victorious over her Ukrainian opponent with a commanding score of 6-3, 6-2. Despite an early setback of being broken in the opening game, Rybakina’s powerful performance saw her dominate the court, securing her win in just 61 minutes. The fourth-ranked player in the world and the highest-seeded remaining in the draw, Rybakina, has now matched Iga Swiatek with seven WTA-level semi-finals this season.

Meanwhile, Barbora Krejcikova advanced to her first Wimbledon semi-final by defeating the 13th seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 7-6(4). The Czech player, known for her strategic baseline play, capitalized on her opponent’s errors, closing out the match with precision on Court One, under its open roof for this special occasion.

Krejcikova, the 31st seed, will now face off against Rybakina in the semi-finals. Krejcikova’s journey at Wimbledon has been marked by resilience and skill, setting up a thrilling clash against Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon champion, on Thursday, July 11.
