WAVES 2025 Opens with Cinematic Icons Celebrating India’s Storytelling Legacy

Mumbai: The inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) began on a high note at the Jio World Centre, Mumbai, setting the tone for a landmark celebration of storytelling and entertainment. The opening session, titled “Legends & Legacies: The Stories That Shaped India’s Soul,” featured an illustrious panel of cinematic legends—Hema Malini, Mohanlal, and Chiranjeevi—with superstar Akshay Kumar moderating the engaging discussion.

Marking a historic moment in India’s cultural calendar, the session reflected on the evolution of Indian cinema, the power of narratives, and the emotional resonance of film across generations.

Hema Malini, fondly known as the “Dream Girl” of Indian cinema, lauded the Government of India for launching such an inclusive and visionary initiative. “It’s a beautiful initiative. I’m proud to be part of it,” she said, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in creating WAVES as a global platform for creative expression and innovation.

Malayalam cinema veteran Mohanlal highlighted the changing perceptions in filmmaking. “The line is very thin between art and entertainment cinema—both have the power to move people,” he said. “I don’t differentiate between the two. It’s the storytelling that matters.”

Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi offered a deeply personal account of his cinematic journey. “Acting has been my first love since childhood,” he said. “I’ve always asked myself what unique element I can bring to the screen. That hunger for growth still drives me.” Known for his grounded screen presence, he added, “I want people to see me as the boy next door. That’s why I try to keep my performances natural and relatable.”

Chiranjeevi also acknowledged the influence of legends like Mithun Chakraborty, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, crediting them as inspirations who helped shape his craft.

The discussion offered a heartfelt blend of memories, aspirations, and wisdom, giving the audience a rare insight into the experiences of India’s most beloved film stars.
