Bhubaneswar: As part of the year-long celebrations marking the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab, the renowned statesman and intellectual, a special art camp dedicated to his life and contributions was held at the Kalinga Art Gallery, Bhubaneswar. The camp, which took place from November 10 to 12, featured 30 distinguished artists from various districts of Odisha, who brought the life of Utkal Keshari to canvas through their artwork.
The camp provided a platform for the artists to creatively illustrate Dr. Mahatab’s visionary work, leadership, and dedication to the welfare of Odisha. The paintings created during the event will be showcased in upcoming exhibitions, aimed at introducing the younger generation to Mahatab’s legacy and his significant role in the state’s progress.
In the closing ceremony of the art camp, Bishnupada Sethi, Principal Secretary of the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, was the chief guest. In his address, Sethi highlighted Dr. Mahatab’s inspirational contributions to Odisha and the nation, stressing the importance of drawing lessons from his life of service. He expressed that the upcoming exhibitions would help youth connect with Mahatab’s work and learn from his dedication to the cultural and social upliftment of the region.
The paintings created by the artists beautifully captured Mahatab’s milestones and his lifelong commitment to the development of Odisha. The initiative, organized by the Department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture, is part of a larger effort to inform the youth about the great leader’s achievements and values, encouraging them to draw inspiration from his life.
During the closing ceremony, the artists were felicitated by Bishnupada Sethi, who lauded their creativity and dedication. The event was also attended by Bijay Ketan Upadhyay, Director of the Culture Department, Subrat Mallik, Principal of Bibhuti Kanungo College of Arts & Crafts, and other senior officials from the Culture Department.
This initiative to honor Dr. Mahatab’s legacy was widely appreciated by the intellectual community and cultural circles, who expressed their admiration for the efforts to preserve and promote the values of one of Odisha’s greatest sons through art. The exhibitions, set to be held soon, will serve as a tribute to Dr. Mahatab’s contributions and provide a meaningful way for future generations to engage with his legacy.
