Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Initiates State-wise Discussions for Agricultural Advancement, Meets Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora

New Delhi: In a bid to accelerate progress in the agriculture sector, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has initiated state-wise discussions. Today, he held a significant meeting with a high-level delegation, including Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi. The discussion focused on promoting soil health, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), increasing storage capacity, and boosting horticulture in Assam, among other topics related to agriculture and farmers’ welfare.

Union Minister Chouhan emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the interests of farmers and the agriculture sector remain paramount. He assured that the Central Government will continue to provide full support to Assam, particularly in organizing capacity-building workshops and training programs.

Chouhan discussed various schemes and programs of the Agriculture Ministry with Bora. He highlighted the necessity of creating infrastructure such as dry storage, cold storage, and processing units under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) in convergence with schemes of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY), and Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI). These measures aim to enhance post-harvest management capacity in the state and minimize post-harvest losses.

“The farmers of Assam will not be allowed to face any problems at the central level,” stated Chouhan, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration between central and state governments. He assured that the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare will provide comprehensive support for the development of Assam. Chouhan also highlighted the central government’s policy to promote natural farming, noting the ample opportunities for such practices in Assam.
