Union Minister Reviews Preparations for Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2024
New Delhi: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, chaired a high-level meeting today to assess preparations for the upcoming Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign 2024, a nationwide cleanliness drive set to commence on September 17, 2024.
The fortnight-long campaign, which will culminate on October 2 in honor of Gandhi Jayanti, marks the 10th anniversary of the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative, launched in 2014. The campaign aims to mobilize millions of citizens across India, with preparatory events kicking off from September 14.
During the meeting, Manohar Lal emphasized the importance of active participation at all levels of government and urged nationwide citizen involvement. The 2024 campaign will focus on promoting cleanliness as a fundamental behavior, encapsulated in the theme: ‘Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata’ (Cleanliness in habit, Cleanliness in values).
The initiative will center on three core components: Jan Bhagidari (public participation), Achieving Cleanliness, and the Recognition of Safai Mitras—sanitation workers and other stakeholders who have played a crucial role in the program over the past decade.
The campaign will see extensive participation from district administrations and state governments, ensuring a coordinated approach to cleanliness nationwide. Manohar Lal stressed that the campaign’s success hinges on the collective efforts of government officials, NGOs, corporate entities, and citizens.
Manohar Lal expressed confidence that Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 will be instrumental in advancing the government’s mission to promote cleanliness and hygiene across the country, contributing to a cleaner and healthier India.
