Union Minister Pralhad Joshi Launches Eco-Friendly Battery Vehicles at Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri

Puri: Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, inaugurated a fleet of 10 battery-operated vehicles at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri today, marking a significant step towards promoting eco-friendly mobility at one of India’s most cherished heritage sites. This initiative, supported by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) as part of its CSR program, is designed to enhance accessibility for visitors, especially benefiting senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

The flagging-off ceremony took place in the presence of key dignitaries, including the Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, to whom Shri Joshi handed over the vehicle keys. Emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices at cultural landmarks, the Minister said, “The deployment of battery-operated vehicles at this historic temple underscores our commitment to green energy and offers visitors an accessible and environmentally friendly transport option. IREDA’s support for sustainable CSR projects like this reflects their dedication to India’s green mission and enhances visitor experiences at our nation’s significant heritage sites.”

Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman & Managing Director of IREDA, expressed pride in the organization’s role in supporting eco-friendly initiatives. “IREDA is honored to contribute to the development of heritage sites through our CSR initiatives,” he said. “This project aligns with our mission of driving sustainable and renewable energy solutions in every sphere of life and aims to provide eco-friendly mobility solutions for visitors.”

Dr. B. K. Mohanty, Director (Finance) at IREDA, along with senior officials from the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, and IREDA, also attended the event. Following the launch, the Union Minister, CMD of IREDA, and other officials offered prayers at the Lord Jagannath Temple.
