New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Textiles, Piyush Goyal, inaugurated the much-anticipated ‘Startup Mahakumbh’ during a curtain-raiser event organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in New Delhi today. The minister hailed the event as a reflection of India’s growth story and emphasized the significant role of startups in fostering innovation across various sectors.

In his keynote address, Goyal highlighted the capability of the startup sector to bring forth groundbreaking ideas in areas such as mobility, food, textiles, and more. The theme of ‘Bharat Innovates’ for Startup Mahakumbh, according to the minister, underlines the vital connection between innovation and startups.

The event, which brings together 57 diverse startup footprints from across the country, was lauded by Goyal for providing a single platform for these startups. He inaugurated the Bharat Startup Ecosystem Registry and unveiled the website and logo of Startup Mahakumbh during the ceremony.

He emphasized that Indian startups are rewriting the rules of the game, and the startup sector is the backbone of the nation. He encouraged both well-known and emerging startups across the country to actively participate in Startup Mahakumbh, marking the commencement of an annual event aimed at showcasing the success stories and evolution of the startup ecosystem since its inception in 2016.

The Minister urged DPIIT to persist in its efforts to promote startups in various districts through financial and logistical support, ensuring representation from at least one startup in each district at Startup Mahakumbh.

Expressing hope that the event would engage students and youth across the country with an entrepreneurial spirit, Goyal envisioned the integration of aspirational India with the startup sector, propelling India’s economy towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Highlighting the ‘can do’ spirit of the youth, the Minister expressed confidence that their enthusiasm and innovation showcased at the event would help narrate India’s success story to the rest of the world. Goyal also praised the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) infrastructure at Bharat Mandapam, noting that such facilities have revolutionized the organization of mega events, facilitating the convergence of industry elements and presenting India’s story cohesively on a global stage.
