
New Delhi: The 10th Mission Steering Group (MSG) meeting under the leadership of Giriraj Singh, Union Minister of Textiles, has successfully approved 12 new research projects with a total value of INR 13.3 crore. These projects, aimed at advancing the development of technical textiles in India, cover key strategic areas such as geotextiles, sustainable and smart textiles, and composites. The projects have been proposed by leading research institutions and bodies including IITs, NITs, and the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI).
With these new approvals, the total number of research projects under the National Technical Textiles Mission has now reached 168, amounting to an approximate investment of INR 509 crore. This reflects the Ministry of Textiles’ continued commitment to strengthening India’s position as a leader in technical textiles and fostering innovations in the textile sector.
In his address, Giriraj Singh emphasized the importance of collaboration between industry and research bodies, urging the industry to actively participate in these research initiatives. He also highlighted the recent release of new Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) guidelines under the Mission, designed to encourage industry involvement and protect innovations.
The National Technical Textiles Mission is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Textiles aimed at boosting research and development capabilities within the local industry, particularly in areas such as high-performance fibre development. The mission aims to transform India into a global hub for technical textiles by enhancing the sector’s capabilities and driving sustainable innovation.
