New Delhi: Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, has given the green light for a Rs. 1742.11 crore project aimed at enhancing highway connectivity in Mizoram. The approved project involves the construction of the 4-lane N. Kawnpui (N.Mualvum) – Sairang section on NH-6, situated along the Silchar –Valrengte – Sairang road in the Aizawl and Kolasib districts.
In a social media post, Shri Gadkari highlighted that this 24.41 km project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode as part of National Highway (Original) – North East (NH(O)-NE).
“The envisioned road infrastructure is strategically designed to facilitate uninterrupted traffic flow, steering clear of interference from local traffic in developed areas. This initiative aims to alleviate congestion in urban zones, significantly enhancing road safety within these built-up areas,” stated Shri Gadkari.
The Union Minister emphasized that the project is set to sidestep heavily populated areas, mitigating congestion and boosting road safety within the city of Aizawl. Furthermore, it aims to reduce the length of the existing National Highway by 25 kilometers, from Vairengte to Sairang, contributing to more efficient and streamlined transportation in the region.
The construction of the 4-lane N. Kawnpui (N.Mualvum) – Sairang section is expected to enhance connectivity and accessibility in Mizoram, facilitating smoother traffic movement and reducing travel time for commuters. Shri Gadkari’s announcement has been met with enthusiasm from the local population, anticipating improved connectivity and economic development in the region.
The project aligns with the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation networks across the country and promoting sustainable and efficient road infrastructure. The construction under the EPC mode reflects a focused approach towards timely execution and effective implementation, ensuring the realization of improved road connectivity in Mizoram.
