Prime Minister Narendra Modi Unveils PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana for Free Rooftop Solar Electricity

New Delhi:  In a significant move towards sustainable development and promoting clean energy, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced the launch of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a rooftop solar scheme aimed at providing free electricity to households across the nation. The Prime Minister shared the news on social media, emphasizing the scheme’s commitment to people’s well-being and sustainable progress.

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with an impressive investment of over Rs. 75,000 crores, aims to illuminate 1 crore households by offering up to 300 units of free electricity every month. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the comprehensive support provided by the Central Government to ensure there is no financial burden on the people. Substantive subsidies, directly credited to people’s bank accounts, and heavily concessional bank loans are integral components of the scheme.

The Prime Minister stated, “All stakeholders will be integrated into a National Online Portal, ensuring convenience and transparency in the implementation of the scheme. This initiative aligns with our commitment to providing clean and affordable energy to every household.”

To promote the scheme at the grassroots level, Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats will be incentivized to encourage the adoption of rooftop solar systems within their jurisdictions. The scheme aims not only to provide free electricity but also to contribute to more income, reduced power bills, and employment generation for the people.

Expressing his optimism about the scheme’s success, Prime Minister Modi urged all residential consumers, especially the youth, to strengthen the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana by applying through the official portal – pmsuryaghar.gov.in.

The launch of this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to harnessing solar power for sustainable progress and addressing energy challenges in the country. The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is poised to make a significant impact by providing free rooftop solar electricity to households, fostering green energy adoption, and contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future for India.
