Bhubaneswar: Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, visited the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports today, meeting with Olympic-bound athletes Mirabai Chanu, Annu Rani, and Abha Khatua. He also inspected new infrastructure developments at the institute.
Dr. Mandaviya expressed confidence in the athletes’ preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, citing strong support from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Mirabai Chanu praised the assistance of sports scientist Dr. Aaron Horschig, while Annu Rani highlighted her extended training in Europe.
During his visit, Dr. Mandaviya engaged with other athletes and coaches, discussing ways to reduce drop-out rates in competitive sports. He emphasized the government’s commitment to nurturing grassroots talent, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision for sports development.
The Minister reviewed facilities and ongoing infrastructure projects, including the High Performance Centre for Sports Science. He noted the institute’s role as a premier training facility comparable to global standards.
