Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh Inaugurates ASSOCHAM Environment and Carbon Conference in New Delhi

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change,  Kirti Vardhan Singh, inaugurated the ASSOCHAM Environment and Carbon Conference today, focusing on building a collaborative ecosystem to achieve India’s net-zero target by 2070. The conference, held in New Delhi, brought together key stakeholders and industry leaders to discuss sustainable development and climate resilience.

In his address, Singh highlighted the global nature of climate change, stating, “Climate change is a boundary-less phenomenon, not confined by political or national borders, and requires a collective effort.” He reiterated India’s commitment to building climate resilience and meeting its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Singh emphasized the importance of adopting Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) to promote sustainable living and contribute to long-term development goals.

Singh also stressed the need for increased Research and Development in green technology to help industries transition to low-carbon emissions. “Achieving net zero and combating climate change requires a holistic approach, focusing on future generations. Our efforts must include research that fosters greener industries and low-carbon technologies,” he added.

The conference featured prominent figures, including Archana Varma, Managing Director of the National Water Mission,  Milind Deore, Secretary of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Masood Mallick, CEO of Re Sustainability, and Dr. Anand Rai, VP and Head of Sustainability at JSW. Discussions centered on strategies for achieving net zero, promoting green technologies, and fostering a collaborative approach to sustainability.
