Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Spearheads Initiative to Elevate India’s Aviation Hubs with Innovative Airport Design and Technology

New Delhi:  In a groundbreaking move, Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, led an advisory committee meeting today, engaging airport operators, CISF, and Bureau of Immigration officials. The focus of the discussion was on potential transformations in airport interior design and the integration of cutting-edge technologies to streamline immigration and security processes for international travelers, marking a significant stride towards establishing international aviation hubs in India.

The committee explored the prospect of cross-utilizing domestic and international XBIS (X-Ray Baggage Inspection System) machines at Delhi airport. This initiative aims to enhance machine availability, subsequently reducing wait times for passengers.

Proof-of-concept trials for e-gates and e-biometrics for immigration processes are already in progress. These innovations are poised to redefine efficiency and security standards in air travel. A comprehensive analysis of CISF and Immigration officer manpower requirements was conducted, considering the planned expansion of existing and upcoming airports across the country, including those in Jewar, Navi Mumbai, and others.

Taking to his social media platform, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia shared, “We are currently discussing the design models to speed up immigration & security for international travelers. New technologies such as e-biometrics are also on the anvil and are currently being tested. These will be key in our vision for international aviation hubs in India.”

The Union Minister underscored the government’s commitment to embracing innovation and leveraging technology to revolutionize India’s civil aviation landscape. He reiterated the ministry’s dedication to positioning India as a global leader in air travel, aligning with the industry’s shared objective of creating multiple aviation hubs throughout the country.

Stakeholders from key ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Bureau of Immigration, Central Industrial Security Force, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, and Airports Authority of India, actively participated in the advisory committee meeting. The collaborative efforts signify a concerted push towards a more efficient, secure, and technologically advanced aviation ecosystem in India.
