Union Minister Jual Oram Visits Nagaland to Strengthen Tribal Development Initiatives

Nagaland: Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, is on a three-day visit to Nagaland as part of the Prime Minister’s initiative to connect with citizens across the country, with special focus on the Northeast. The visit, from October 13 to 15, 2024, aims to engage with local communities, assess their needs, and ensure that government initiatives are effectively reaching every corner of the nation.

On October 13, Oram met with Nagaland’s Hon’ble Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, at his residence in Sovima. Their discussions centered on the development of key projects, particularly the optimal use of funds for Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation. Oram stressed the importance of developing world-class EMRS institutions to empower tribal students and fostering a robust entrepreneurship ecosystem to drive economic growth in the state.

The following day, October 14, Oram addressed tribal communities at an event in Zunheboto’s Multi-purpose Hall, reaffirming the central government’s dedication to uplifting the Northeast. He emphasized that his visit was aimed at ensuring government schemes effectively benefit the people of Nagaland, especially at the grassroots level. Oram listened to the concerns of the local communities and reassured them of the government’s commitment to inclusive development.

Later, Oram visited the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Diphupar, accompanied by H. Tovihoto Ayemi, Advisor for Tribal Affairs, Nagaland. He also toured Adi Bazar, where he interacted with local vendors and artisans to discuss their challenges and explore ways to boost their economic growth through government support.

Explaining the significance of his visit, Oram said it aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision for ministers to engage directly with citizens across the country, particularly in the Northeast, to drive India towards its goal of becoming a developed nation.

On October 15, the Minister will conclude his visit by inaugurating a new community hall in Indisen village, Dimapur. This marks yet another step towards empowering local communities through infrastructure development, further highlighting the government’s commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive Northeast.
