Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy Inaugurates Rooftop Solar Power Plant at GSITI, Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, inaugurated a 150-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant at the Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI) in Hyderabad today. Held at the M. S. Krishnan Auditorium, the event marks a significant leap forward in the institute’s commitment to promoting sustainable energy practices.

The newly installed solar power plant is a step towards reducing the institute’s carbon footprint and promoting the use of renewable energy within government institutions. The plant is expected to meet 75% of GSITI’s energy needs, contributing to India’s larger goal of increasing renewable energy’s share in the national energy mix and supporting environmental sustainability.

During the inauguration, G. Kishan Reddy praised GSITI for its dedication to sustainable energy, stating, “This is a major step towards environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, and sustainable development. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India has emerged as a global leader in climate action. Initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana are empowering households to embrace solar energy. The solar plant at GSITI will save Rs 30 lakh annually, setting a new standard for renewable energy use in public institutions.”

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including S. D. Patbhaje, Additional Director General of the Geological Survey of India (Southern Region), who emphasized the importance of the project in promoting sustainable development. Eatala Rajender, Member of Parliament for Malkajgiri, highlighted the critical role of renewable energy in driving national progress.

As part of the event, a sapling plantation ceremony took place, symbolizing GSITI’s ongoing commitment to environmental conservation. The event concluded with the unveiling of the inaugural plaque for the solar plant, followed by a tour of the facility, where the dignitaries learned about its technical features and benefits.
