New Delhi:  In a significant stride towards educational inclusivity, Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, launched the EdCIL Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme on February 6, 2024, in New Delhi. The event saw the presence of key dignitaries including Secretary, Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Shri K. Sanjay Murthy, and Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Shri Sanjay Kumar, among others.

Speaking at the event, Shri Pradhan highlighted that the Vidyanjali Scholarship Program, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, signifies a comprehensive approach to empowerment through education, particularly for economically disadvantaged students. Commending the achievements of students from Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), he praised nearly 14,000 students who secured admissions to prestigious institutes like IITs and NITs without resorting to coaching centers. The Minister emphasized the scholarship, amounting to Rs. 5 crore, being awarded to 70 deserving students.

Shri Pradhan expressed his appreciation for the corporate sector’s philanthropic involvement, stating that such initiatives inspire other businesses to support financially underprivileged yet academically gifted students. He underscored the collective responsibility of all citizens in nation-building and applauded the generosity of donor organizations.

Shri K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Higher Education, shed light on how the initiative aligns with NEP 2020 recommendations, channeling philanthropy toward the education sector. He praised the JNV students’ success in premier institutes and urged more sponsors to come forward to support students in their educational pursuits.

Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, highlighted the consistently commendable performance of NVS students in board exams. He emphasized that these achievements are irrespective of the students’ economic background, emphasizing the role of good pedagogy and opportunities in aiding students to excel.

During the event, the Minister interacted with six JNV students and five corporate CSR sponsors. Significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged between CSR sponsors, including Fiat India, HDFC Bank Limited, ClearMedi Healthcare, Bharat Forge, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, showcasing collaboration between the government and the private sector. The innovative Vidyanjali Fintech Platform/portal was launched, and scholarship letters were presented to six meritorious NVS students.

The EdCIL Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme, in alignment with NEP 2020, is set to revolutionize opportunities for quality education and access to higher education institutions. By extending financial support to meritorious Navodaya Vidyalaya students lacking means, this initiative encourages private sector involvement through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The event is a pivotal step towards the government’s commitment to educational inclusivity and socio-economic upliftment in the country.
