Union Home Minister Amit Shah Reviews LWE Situation in Chhattisgarh, Calls for Comprehensive Strategy

Raipur: Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah chaired a crucial review meeting today in Raipur, assessing the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) situation in Chhattisgarh. The meeting saw the participation of key officials, including the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Union Home Secretary, Director (IB), Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh, DG of CRPF, and DGP of Chhattisgarh.

Highlighting the progress made in the internal security landscape, Shri Amit Shah underscored a nearly 75% reduction in violence and an 80% geographical constriction in the three internal security situations in Jammu and Kashmir, North East, and LWE-affected areas. He noted the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Power Act from almost 80% of North East areas.

While acknowledging the significant reduction in LWE-affected regions and violence, the Union Home Minister emphasized the need to eradicate the LWE problem within the next three years, particularly in pockets within Chhattisgarh. Shri Amit Shah called for a detailed roadmap involving all stakeholders, focusing on targeting the entire ecosystem sustaining LWE.

He directed the State Police to address remaining security gaps, conduct comprehensive investigations, closely monitor prosecutions, cut off financial streams, and continue intelligence-led operations. The Union Home Minister stressed reviewing inputs from the Multi-Agency Center and operationalizing verified information.

In order to ensure the benefits of Central and State Government schemes in LWE-affected districts, Shri Amit Shah called for the saturation coverage of these areas. He urged flexibility in fund allocation and usage in highly affected districts, emphasizing proactive and sensitive handling of local grievances.

Subsequently, following the Union Home Minister’s directives, the Union Home Secretary engaged in a detailed interaction with the Collectors and SSPs of highly LWE-affected districts, focusing on coordinated efforts and efficient implementation of strategies to counter the Maoist menace.
