UNESCO- Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture: Nominations Open for 20th Edition

New Delhi: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced the commencement of nominations for the 20th edition of the UNESCO- Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture. This prestigious prize aims to acknowledge and honor outstanding contributions made by individuals, groups, or institutions in promoting, understanding, and disseminating Arab culture globally through various forms of artistic, intellectual, or promotional expressions.

The UNESCO- Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture is divided into two categories, with one recipient chosen from the Arab States and the other from the rest of the world. Both winners will share the prize fund, which amounts to a total of US $60,000. The selection process will be carried out by an international jury of experts.

To be eligible for the prize, Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) actively involved in teaching Arabic Art, Language, or Culture are encouraged to submit their nominations. The UNESCO- Sharjah Prize holds the potential to highlight and commend the remarkable efforts of institutions contributing to the enrichment and promotion of Arab culture on a global scale.

Interested HEIs are advised to forward their nominations to the Indian National Commission to UNESCO (INCCU) by the specified deadline of February 15, 2024. The statutes of the prize and a brochure with detailed information are provided for reference alongside the invitation for nominations.

This initiative underscores UNESCO’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating cultural diversity while fostering global cooperation and mutual understanding.
