Bhubaneswar: With the state-level Independence Day event just days away, the Commissionerate Police has stepped up security across the capital, deploying 21 platoons of personnel to ensure the celebrations pass off peacefully.
The main programme will take place at Mahatma Gandhi Marg under a multi-layered security plan. According to Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena, the deployment includes five DCP-rank officers, five Additional DCPs, eight ACPs, 21 Inspectors, and more than 100 Sub-Inspectors or ASIs.
“Security arrangements are in place not only at the main venue but also in all public galleries, surrounding roads, and major junctions,” Meena said.
Traffic control is also a key focus. The DCP (Traffic) is managing diversions and parking facilities, with officers posted at major chowks and approach routes to prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement.
Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, who reviewed the arrangements, said the preparations were aimed at balancing public convenience with strict security. “This is a day of pride for every Indian, and we are committed to maintaining order and dignity throughout the celebrations,” he noted.
The Commissionerate Police has appealed to citizens to cooperate with officers and follow traffic advisories for a safe and orderly Independence Day.
